In order
to address the nursing and allied health shortage, the Maryland Hospital
Association created a scholarship program to attract students to Maryland
health care careers. Since receiving a grant from BD Diagnostics in 2002, MHA
has awarded at least ten $2,500 scholarships each year84 scholarships
total.
MHA
congratulates the 18 hospital employees who have been selected to receive
scholarships of $2,500 each from the 2007 MHA Hospital Scholars Program. Care
First, PRIME, The Chesapeake Registry, and the Maryland Hospital Association
teamed up to form the MHA Hospital Scholars Program scholarships to
Maryland residents who are preparing for careers in health care professions.
Many applications were reviewed by a multidisciplinary panel of judges
representing the health professions as well as hospital administrators and
professional schools. Ten students seeking undergraduate degrees in nursing,
three students seeking masters degrees in nursing, one student seeking a
doctoral degree in nursing, two students seeking associates degrees in
allied health, and one student seeking a bachelors degree in allied
health will each receive a scholarship.

- be accepted to or enrolled in a program leading to
a degree or certificate in life sciences, nursing, or allied health, and be
within one to two years of completing educational requirements;

courses, or be certified by the school to be eligible for financial assistance;
