In March, the Takoma Park Elementary School (TPES) holds its annual “Exercise for TPES” festival. The health event centers on a series of stations that the students visit to learn about movement, dental hygiene, self-care and other aspects of health in a fun atmosphere. Approximately 50 percent of TPES students receive subsidized lunches. Washington Adventist Hospital helps TPES students learn that the lifestyle choices we all make each day can have a significant impact on our health. To encourage children to visit each health education station, Washington Adventist Hospital sponsors “passports” or booklets that were stamped by each child at every health station. In addition, each child received a healthy snack and a medal to commemorate their participation.
