Southern Maryland Hospital Focuses on Car Seat Safety

I
nfant car seat safety is a concern throughout Maryland, as well as the nation. Recognizing the need to provide the community with this service, free of charge, Southern Maryland Hospital Center established a Child Car Seat Safety Program in 2002. At the time, there was no location within the region that was doing these types of car seat checks, making it difficult for new parents and growing families to assure the car seat safety of the children. To respond to this need, SMHC hired certified technicians who provide car seat safety checks on a regular basis. In the first two years of the program, SMHC has provided this service to more than 2,000, families—one of the highest volume providers in the area. This has brought the attention of the local fire and police departments. SMHC is the only hospital in the area that is doing installations, as well as the education for patients and parents on a continual basis.
